The brief was to enhance and simplify the user experience for unique customer profiles: medical professionals. The operating room environment and Avail’s audiences have needs that are different from the typical business professional working at a desk.

Passage started the project off with a series of stakeholder interviews to align on goals, the state of the current product and what success might look like. Following these interviews, Passage conducted an extensive audit of Avail’s existing software offering as well as other offerings in the market. The outcome was a list of potential opportunities that were then prioritized according to level of effort and potential value-add. The Avail product team, with Passage’s help, then added this list into the product roadmap and a punch list for what has been a several year engagement.

Together these two touchpoints comprise the majority of the Avail product functionality. Once a single concept was chosen, we began documenting the design language for future teams to build off. The established system was also extended to Figma-based componentry to allow for consistent and efficient iteration.

For over two years, Passage has supported Avail as their on-demand design team. We’ve worked closely on a sprint-by-sprint basis to provide incremental updates to the software ecosystem, enabling surgeons and medical professionals to collaborate remotely, the world over.
